Julekha Begum was cooking for her son when she suddenly received a phone call saying that a plane had crashed at the school.
Julekha Begum was cooking at home so her son would eat rice after returning from school. Suddenly, she got a call on her mobile phone. She learned that a plane had crashed at her son’s school. She immediately went to Milestone School and College in Uttara. When she went there, Julekha learned that her son had been taken to the National Burn Institute in Dhaka. There, she saw her burnt son Abdullah Chamim. He later died while undergoing treatment there.

Abdullah Chamim (12) was killed when an Air Force fighter jet crashed into a building at Milestone School and College in Uttara in the capital. He was studying in the sixth grade of that school. The number of people killed in yesterday’s incident has increased to 27. 78 people are undergoing treatment in various hospitals. Chamim is the son of the deceased Abul Kalam Azad of DMkhali Majhikandi area of Bhedarganj upazila in Shariatpur. He lived in Uttara with his mother and siblings. Chamim was buried next to his father’s grave in his village house this Tuesday morning.
After Chamim’s body was brought to DMkhali this morning, a shadow of grief descended. His mother Julekha Begum was crying repeatedly, saying, ‘Chameem is gone, he didn’t say anything. His father died seven months ago, he didn’t say anything either. How can I forget this grief? Who will I feed with fish and meat and rice?’
Talking to family members, it was learned that Abul Kalam Azad lived in Saudi Arabia with his family. Three years ago, he returned to the country with his wife, two sons and a daughter. He built a house in Uttara, Dhaka and started living there. Abul Kalam did business in Saudi Arabia. He fell ill in December last year and died. Family members brought his body to the village in January and buried him. Chamim lived with his mother and siblings in Uttara area of Dhaka. Yesterday morning, he rode their car to school. He was in the classroom when the plane crashed. He was rescued and taken to the National Burn Institute. He died at around 10:30 pm while undergoing treatment there.
